300 million people in the world suffer from depression. In the UK alone, 1 in 5 people will suffer from depression at some point in their lives.
Everybody feels down from time to time but it usually doesn't last long. Some of us may have a genes that predisposes us to be depressed. For most of us, depression starts as a reaction to a difficult event in life. It could be the loss of a friend or family member, the end of a relationship, humiliation or difficulties achieving what we want and anything that make us feel trapped.
Whatever the cause, it is important to remember that depression can be helped.
There are varying levels of depression of course and life coaching is particularly suited for those who are not clinically depressed but have some symptoms of depression like sadness, tearfulness, feeling negative towards the future, feelings of hopelessness and helplessness, low self-esteem, feelings of guilt, lack of motivation, difficulties making decisions, lack of enjoyment, feeling anxious or worried and reduced sex drive.
Life coaching with a compassionate coach can prevent clients from sinking even more into depression by guiding them towards fulfilment and happiness.
Using cognitive behavioural therapy, I help clients change the way they react to situations. This is very effective in helping clients cope with stress and problems - thus preventing future depression.
